Dowry harassment case: Mother-in-law and sister-in-law arrested

Deceased, Niranjani (26), attached to the Mico Layout police station, was residing at Vijaya Bank Colony.

The police suspect difference of opinion between Niranjani and her husband Ganesh. He had married her claiming to be an industrialist. However, soon after the wedding she found out that he was into real estate business.

Trivial issue

The couple quarrelled last week over some issue and Niranjani was upset since then.

Niranjani, who had slept in her room on Saturday night did not open the door in the morning. Siddalingamma, her mother-in-law, grew suspicious and opened the window.

She was shocked to see Niranjani’s body hanging from the ceiling fan, said the police.

A case of dowry harassment has been booked and Siddalingamma and her daughter Cauveramma have been arrested. However, Ganesh is at large.

A native of Kanenahlli, Kadur in Chikmagalur district, Niranjani joined the police department in 2005. She served at the RT Nagar police station before moving to the Mico Layout police station.

Rs 3.5 lakh robbed

A sum of Rs 3.5 lakh kept in a car was stolen, on Sunday, at HSR Layout by two miscreants. Venkatesh, a technician at St John’s Hospital had obtained a cheque from a client and had remitted it at the Karnataka Bank.  After encashing the cheque, Venkatesh had kept the money in the car’s dashboard. He stopped at HSR Layout Club and went to have tea. At that time, two miscreants on a two-wheeler broke open the car’s window and fled with Rs 3.5 lakh. A case has been registered at the HSR layout police station.
