Speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of a programme here on Monday, Karnataka Horticultural University (Bagalkot) Vice Chancellor S B Dandin said the decision to enhance the total number of seats was taken to meet the demand for courses in Horticulture Science.

Only 20 per cent of the applicants could be accommodated in the last academic year.
The University would increase the strength in Bachelor of Science (Horticulture) from 360 to 500 in 10 affiliated colleges.

He said the number of seats in MSc-Horticulture would be increased from 120 to 150 seats and the intake for PhD would be increased from 25 to 50.

Prof Dandin said a sum of Rs 60 crore allocated by the State government would be utilised for developing infrastructure. Besides hostels and other structures, seven farms would be developed as only three of the ten colleges have gardens for experiments, he said.
