He told  mediapersons that it was not possible to  stick to the High Court order which fixed July 31 as the deadline to hold elections to the local body since electoral role revicion is yet to be taken up in the wards that have been newly carved out.
It may be recalled that  the number of wards coming under BBMP  had been increased from 147 to 198, as per the State cabinet approval.

The State cabinet had earlier approved holding the much-delayed elections to the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) by July-end in accordance with the Karnataka High Court’s order.
Besides deciding to increase the number of wards under the BBMP from 147 to 198, the Cabinet also approved the use of electronic voting machines for the municipal elections.

Elections to the BBMP have not been held since November 2006.

The government came under pressure from the Karnataka High Court when it directed the State to hold the BBMP polls before July 31. This followed a public interest litigation filed by the former mayor from the Congress party P R Ramesh.
