Rape not ruled out, cops await her autopsy report

A 12-year-old girl was found murdered at her house in north-east Delhi’s New Usmanpur on Tuesday.

Police suspect that she girl was raped or gang-raped before being strangled. Her semi-naked blood-soaked body was discovered lying on the floor by her mother.
“A confirmation on sexual assault with the girl would be made only after they receive her post-mortem report,” said a police officer.

Three detained
Sources said three persons, including the victim’s landlord Mohammed Akil and his son, have been detained and are being interrogated in the case.

They were detained after a couple of neighbours told police that they had seen bloodstains on Akil’s clothes. 

The girl was a class 6 student at a government school and lived with her mother.
Her mother is a widow and works as a domestic help in central Delhi’s Daryaganj. She returned home at 8 pm and found the main door locked from outside.

She then went inside from another door which opens into another tenant’s room who is outside Delhi with his family for the last few days.

“The woman raised an alarm and neighbours rushed the girl to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital. She was declared brought dead. The hospital authorities informed police,” the officer added.

Sources said there were several injury marks on her private parts, thighs and chest.
The girl is survived by two sisters, who recently got married and three brothers who also stayed separately with their wives.

Police suspect that the culprits knew that the girl was alone at home due to summer vacations. Apart from the three suspects, some other people in the locality are also being questioned in connection with the case.

“Three teams have been constituted to solve the case and nab the killers,” the officer said.

A case of murder has been registered with New Usmanpur police station.
Relevant sections of IPC related to sexual assault would be added in the case if the post-mortem report confirms sexual assault.
