Rains recede in DK, Udupi


In the last 24 hours, Bantwal received 51.6 mm, Belthangady 53 mm, Mangalore 17.8 mm, Puttur 33.2 mm, Sullia 8.2 mm, Moodabidri 52.6 mm, Kadaba 30 mm, Uppinangady 35 mm rainfall. The flood situation also subsided in the district.

Water-level in major rivers of the district like Netravathi and Kumaradhara has come down. Few houses were partially damaged in Dakshina Kannada district in the past 24 hours. The water-level in Netravathi was 6 metres in Bantwal. While in Uppinangady it was 19 metres.

The house of a certain Padmavathi in Edamangala is in danger as a hillock caved in owing to the rains accompanied with wind. The household articles are being shifted to cow shed. The house of Pathrelu Sundara Gowda was partially damaged when a hillock caved in. The house of a certain Ramanna was partially damaged when a tree fell on it at Kamila in Guthigaru.

In Sullia, a house has been partially damaged incurring a loss of Rs 16,000. A cow shed was also been damaged in Sullia taluk. The loss is estimated as Rs 50,000. In Kadaba two houses have been partially damaged, incurring a loss of Rs 20,000.

Train cancelled

Train No 6517/6518 Yeshwantpur – Mangalore – Yeshwantpur Express has been cancelled on Monday and Tuesday following fresh land slip near Yedakumeri in ghat section on Monday morning.

According to officials, though the track was cleared, a fresh land slip in the region compelled the authorities to cancel the train. 

It may be recalled that train service was suspended following land slip near Yedakumeri in ghat section on June 15 night. In fact, this is the fourth land slip in last one week.

In Udupi

In the last 24 hours, Udupi district received an average rainfall of 37.13 mm.

Kundapur taluk received 22.80 mm, Karkala taluk, 53.60 mm and Udupi taluk received an average rainfall of 35 mm. Except drizzling, Udupi district did not receive heavy rains on Monday.

Property worth Rs 3.37 lakh has been damaged in the last 24 hours. As many as 13 houses have been partially damaged in Udupi taluk. In Udupi taluk, the rice mill building owned by Venkatachala Bhat was partially damaged. The loss is estimated as Rs 50,000.

The house of a certain Henry D’Souza has been damaged at Badanidiyur. The loss is estimated as one lakh. Public property worth Rs one lakh has been damaged in the district. A fisheries road in Thenka Ermal was damaged due to sea erosion.
