On Monday, felons dug a tunnel next to a manhole near Bhavani Jewellers in Garudacharpalya, through which they entered the shop and stole gold and silver jewellery worth lakhs.

Shop owner Dudaram, police said, has claimed that the jewellery was worth Rs 3 lakh to 4 lakh. “The gold jewellery in the store was not stolen as it was kept in the locker,” he stated in the complaint.

The CCTV cameras in the store could not capture the images of the offenders, as they were turned off when the store was shut the previous night.

Man robbed

The owner of a wine shop has complained to police that a group of men robbed him of Rs three lakh.

According to the complaint with the Chandra Layout police, unidentified car-borne men stopped him outside the State Bank of Mysore branch in Vinayaka Layout from where he had drawn the money, threw chilli powder in his eyes, grabbed the money and fled.

Dies of poison

Shivamma (40), who had allegedly consumed poison on March 20, died in Byatarayana Pura here on Monday. Police said Shivamma took the extreme step after a quarrel with her husband Shivanna.

ASI summoned

The Eighth Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court recently issued summons against then SR Nagar police inspector Devid Meshak, an ASI, a head constable and a constable in connection with a drunken driving case.

According to sources, Devid Meshak registered a drunken driving case against Sripathi Rao in 2007. However, he failed to prove that Rao was drunk at that time.

He fabricated certain documents and submitted a chargesheet to the court. He had stated in the chargesheet that Rao tried to assault him and prevent him from discharging official duty. He had mentioned name of a constable as an eye witness.
Interestingly, the constable was on leave that day, added the sources.

Rao filed a private petition against Meshak. The judge considered his petition and issued summons to Meshak and others. At present, Meshak is Central police station inspector.
