MP adjudged best state in tourism promotion, bags three awards

MP won three National Tourism awards for 2009-10 for being the Best State in the Country, Best Civic Management of a Tourist Destination in India and for developing Innovative/Unique Tourism Projects at a function organised by Ministry of Tourism here yesterday.

It got special pat for its creative promotional campaign "MP ajab hai..." (MP is amazing...) on television, radio and in the print media.

The state has touched the new heights during the year with an annual revenue growth rate exceeding 25 per cent in consecutive years.

Known for its temples and sculptures, 'Khajuraho' was awarded for best civic management of a tourist destination.

The Khajuraho Municipal Council, set up in 1999 by the state government, has exceeded the established standards of performance of a normal civic body with active participation of local community.

The Council has identified the most effective way to dispose garbage both biodegradable and non biodegradable by door to door collection in specially built tricycle rickshaw in a segregated form, an official release said.

MP's 'Caravan Tourism' -- which promotes family oriented tours to any circuit or any tourist destination where permanent construction is not permitted or feasible -- was awarded for best unique/innovative tourism project category.

Madhya Pradesh tourism has introduced this innovative project to meet the growing tourist demands, while ensuring adherence to quality, standards and safety norms.

The 'National Tourism Award' was presented in recognition of the state's performance in their respective fields and also to encourage healthy competition with an aim to promote tourism.

Madhya Pradesh was appreciated for utilisation of central grants, quality and pace of construction activities, computerised monitoring and project management systems, it added.
