Minimum wages for librarians proposed

He was speaking at the inauguration of a re-orientation programme for Gram Panchayat Librarians, here on Tuesday.

Belamagi said that there is no law to make the post of librarians permanent. But directions will be given to officials concerned to make a proposal to include the librarians under the Minimum Wages Act, he added.

Advising librarians to carry out their work with sincerity, he said that they should ensure that libraries cater to the needs good readers.

ZP CEO G Satyavati informed librarians arrive at work on time, and take pride in their jobs. It is not right to abstain from work, she added. Satyavati told the gathering that they should adjust to any positive reforms brought forth by the government.

A plea was submitted to the minister to increase the honourarium provided to librarians. Librarians from 235 gram panchayats participated in the programme.
