The Bangalore Palace recently played host to a unique fashion show as the garments showcased here were not fancy gowns or glittering saris but simple outfits made from denim! And the denim, in this case, was not restricted to just jeans but even short dresses, kurtas and jackets. It was a stunning display of wearable fashion as denim is something that everyone wears.

The brand showcased was ‘Excel Denim’, an eco-friendly fabric created by Arvind Ltd and Birla Cellulose, and the collection was designed by Rajesh Pratap Singh. There was a small party before the show outside the venue of the show where mannequins, dressed in white tops and jeans, were placed. A few models posed next to these as well.

Inside the venue, there were dry leaves scattered on the aisle and candles lit next to the ramp. The evening was cool, summery and young as current chartbusters of artistes like Usher and Taylor Swift were played to keep the crowd upbeat. When the models started walking the ramp, the guests were amazed at the variety of denim clothes on display. Be it pairing long denim tops with stockings, denim shirt with golden top inside or sleeveless denim top with ‘chudi’ bottom jeans, the models seemed to have done it all. Though the fabric was mainly meant for ladies, the fashion show also had male models walking the ramp showcasing the best in denim fashion for men.

Honouring Rajesh Pratap Singh on the ramp and praising him, Aamir Akhtar from Arvind said, “What he has done on the ramp is really great.” While K K Maheshwari from Birla noted, “This is an exclusive partnership between two icons of leadership. We have used wood pulp to create the fabric and for every tree that is used, at least one tree is planted in return, if not two or three.”

Many enthusiastic fashionistas enjoyed the show as they checked out the different pairs of jeans. While some were there for business purpose as well. Said Ullas, who works for a buying agency, “I am here for networking. I thought it would be nice to see this product as it sounded like a new development.”
