Addressing a news conference here on Tuesday, KSOU Dean (Academic) Prof Jagadeesha said that Higher Education Minister Dr V S Acharya will inaugurate the conference at 10 am on April 8 at Kaveri Hall, in the varsity campus.

MBA popularity declining

Pointing out that the number of students applying for MBA courses is on the decline, he said that during the previous year about 40 per cent of seats in PGCET were not filled.

While mentioning that the situation was similar in KSOU, he said that during the previous year 1,750 students enrolled, but during the current academic year only 1,650 were pursuing MBA courses.

He said that the financial meltdown in the US and economic turmoil in Europe led to the closure of many companies. Further, the corporate world felt that professionals created by the universities were not as competent as expected.

Key factors

He said that lack of industrial exposure, ignorance of bench mark set by regulatory bodies and non evaluation of teachers’ performance were the key factors responsible for the decline of quality of professionals.

Prof Jagadeesha cited the two day conference would sensitise academicians, policy makers, research scholars and industrialists to discuss  prospects and consequences of management education.

Josef Jooste Coetzee from Johannesburg, South Africa will deliver the key note address at the inaugural function.

Managing Director, Bajaj Financial Services, Sanjeev Bajaj, Commissioner, Collegiate Education, Tushar Girinath, Raman Fiber Sciences CEO Aroon Raman, Global Quality Manager, SPI Atlanta from USA, Stephan Borte, CEO, Excel Soft Technologies, Sudanva and others will participate in the programme.
