Probe into cop's suicide bid

"I have directed DCP (North) B R Ravikanthegowda to conduct an inquiry and submit a detailed report at the earliest. We will take suitable action against the guilty based on the report," Additional Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) T Sunil Kumar told Deccan Herald.

Thimme Gowda, the head constable, went inside the toilet after police inspector S D Chebbi reportedly refused to allot him duty on either the Hoysala or Cheetah vehicle. He then allegedly consumed poison. He was immediately taken to K C General Hospital in Malleswaram. Gowda said ill-treatment by Chebbi drove him to take the extreme step. He is recovering and is likely to be discharged on Friday, said the hospital staff.

Gowda told Deccan Herald: "I will meet the Commissioner of Police and other senior police officers to lodge a complaint against Chebbi. I will even meet Home Minister R Ashoka if necessary."

"Recently, I bought pesticide for use in my garden. I took the pesticide bottle with me to consume it, if Chebbi did not put me on the duty I wanted. I learnt I was neither put on Hoysala nor Cheetah duty. The ASI told me it was the inspector's decision. Chebbi also told the ASI, I should do patrolling duty by walk," he said.

Gowda claimed he did not have a single black mark in his 28 years of service. He refused to do patrolling by walk as he had fractured his left leg in an accident eight years ago.
Two years ago, Chebbi wrote negative remarks about him, that denied him an increment, Gowda said. "He started targeting me, ever since I protested his attitude," Gowda said.

Chebbi's version

Chebbi has denied Gowda's allegations. "I have records to show how his attitude created problem to his colleagues. He never carried weapons, whenever he went in patrol vehicles. He always used filthy language against all, including his superiors. He did not consume poison, but sprayed it on his face and shirt," added Chebbi.
