Prema Chandrama

Some things never change. A title like Prema Chandrama conjures up images of tender, enduring romance. But the viewer gets a montage of some memorable scenes of several old hits instead. An improbable pairing, tunes that are out of sync with actual picturisation, or vice-versa and a loosely-knit story are the hallmarks of Prema Chandrama. The intensity required in executing such plots is conspicuous by its absence. Sahuraj Sindhe seems to have hurried through his homework – women generally sing songs in praise of Gowri during that festival and not bhagyada lakshmi baramma, for one. The over-competency of veterans and ineptitude of novices grates on the nerves. Dialogues are a real pain.

The film is tolerable mainly because of Rekha who’s never looked this wholesome. Her expressions help her score over the two heroes - Raghu and Kiran. Raghu doesn’t need to work hard but Kiran, though out of depth, manages to hold his own. The ‘find’ of the film perhaps is its producer Ganesh whose cameo as the wicked brother-in-law is bang on. As for the rest, the less said the better.
