Mattondu Maduvena?

Last Updated 08 April 2011, 18:57 IST

They are back. The suspended Lokayukta, his dominating wife and daughters with their pack of tricks try again to teach an increasingly cynical society a value or two. This time the focus is on the young lovers Vivek and Mridula who get married. A misunderstanding pops up and her parents are no help at all. Malavika (Suhasini) does not listen to her husband (Anant Nag) and proceeds to obtain divorce for her daughter. But she has not bargained for the re-entry of TV artiste Veena (Jennifer, in a delightful cameo) in her life... Add the super efficient cook Radhabai (Tara) and her good-for-nothing brother (Sharan) to the mix and the result is wonderful mayhem. While the original Eradane Maduve was a laugh riot with seriousness creeping in during the climax, Mattondu Maduvena? is one rare instance of a sequel clicking instantly with its audience.

Credit must go to Baboo and his team for an engaging screenplay and witty dialogues. Suresh Byrasandra acquits himself well with the camera as does Giridhar Diwan in the single song. However, the climax runs the risk of undoing all the good work. Anant-Suhasini make a delectable pair but Anant’s aged looks is a cause for worry - good actors are hard to come by.

The wedding season is on and Mattondu Maduvena? is not a bad attempt at all.
