Judicial Magistrate First Class court has awarded two years imprisonment to a person who cheated the bank and the City Municipality by availing the government funds in the name of a dead person.

The convicted, Vijayanarasimha, a resident of Tapateshwara colony in the town was accused of  availing funds under 18 pc scheme in the name of his deceased father.

Ramakrishnappa, the father of Vijayanarasimha had filed an application seeking sanction of funds under 18 pc scheme in 2004 and a sum of Rs 8,000 was sanctioned also.

Ramakrishnappa died on Nov 8, 2004.

Vijayanarasimha, suppressing the fact of death of his father and misleading the City Municipality by stating that his father can’t move about, obtained an account payee cheque in the name of his father on Dec 10, 2004. He later withdrew the amount from Kuruburu Silk Growers Cooperative Bank, again misrepresenting the facts, on Dec 14.

Mahendrakumar, the then municipal commissioner had lodged a complaint in this behalf on June 14, 2005.

The court, convicting Vijayanarasimha of the charges, has sentenced him to two years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 6,000. Assistant Public Prosecutor Rehaman represented the State.
