Former prime minister and Hassan MP, H D Deve Gowda will stage a dharna in the city on April 18 to protest against neglect of the district by the State government.

Addressing a news conference here on Monday, he said the government hhad failed to fulfil the aspirations of the people despite repeated pleas. The works, started during the tenure of H D Revanna, have come to standstill. There is reported move to shift the pre-university and degree college sanctioned to Hassan district to another district.

The Chief Minister B S Yeddyurppa had promised to release Rs 50 crore as special grants for the development of district during his recent visit to the district. But, he failed to keep up his promise.

A list of demands and programmes to implement in the district will be dispatched to CM soon.

A huge protest would be launched in Bangalore with the support of others if Yeddyurappa did not fulfil the demand.

On H D Kumaraswamy’s statement that Mahatma Gandhiji would have been corrupt if he were to alive today, Deve Gowda said he too had made a similar statement earlier.

His son had made the statement by taking into account the prevailing corruption in the society. “Mahatama Gandhiji was never interested to join politics. he would have became prime minister or President of India if he wanted. Nobody has any moral right to speak about Gandhiji”, he said.

District JD(S) President H K Javaregowda, MLA H S Prakash were present.
