Nine fire tenders rushed to the spot and put out the blaze after a two-hour-long battle. No construction worker was injured.

Electrical short circuit is said to have triggered the fire. The value of the property destroyed is yet to be estimated.

The fire force staff said they received a call around 4.30 pm alerting them about a fire in a three-storey building.

The construction workers had stored the materials on the second floor.

“It was not the fire, but the dense smoke that caused tension. The smoke had spread to the two floors and it took nearly two hours for the firemen to control the blaze,” said Chief Fire Officer Ramesh.

The owner of the building has been identified as Vikas.
