Anniversary of Vijayanagar empire

Disclosing this to reporters after holding the first meeting of Cabinet sub-committee set up to plan the celebrations, Tourism Minister Janardhana Reddy said the celebrations will start on November 1 on the occasion of Kannada Rajyotsava, and Vijayanagar utsava will be organised on November 27, 28 and 29.

The sub-committee has planned to install a statue of Krishnadevaraya and develop a 80-acre garden at Hampi in Bellary, which was the capital of the then Vijayanagar empire.

Besides, serials and documentaries on the Vijayanagar empire and Krishnadevaraya will be brought out.

Essay and drawing competitions will be organised for schoolchildren in this regard, he added. The sub-committee, he said, has not yet estimated the expenditure for the celebrations. The Cabinet will finalise all the plans with respect to the celebrations, he added.
