BWSSB staff get tips on handling pressure

Last Updated 13 April 2011, 19:30 IST

The three AEs including a woman who were appointed at Banashankari, Vijaya Bank Layout and Yeshwantpur were allegedly harassed by the corporators and local leaders for not supplying water on time.

Taking the issue seriously, BWSSB conducted a counselling session here on Wednesday, where 62 assistant engineers (AEs) and 21 junior engineers (JEs) were given counselling on handling pressure.

Speaking to the newly appointed staff, BWSSB minister S Suresh Kumar said the young engineers of the board must come out of their comfort zone, handle pressure and take it as a challenge.

“It is summer season and people will definitely demand water. They will abuse you and may also try and attack you sometimes. It is our duty to patiently listen to their problems and make efforts to solve them,” he said.

Reacting to the three engineers’ resignation, the minister said he will speak to them and counsel them too.

BWSSB’s engineer-in-chief T Venkataraju told the AEs and JEs that they were not working to their full capacity and need to pull up their socks. “AEs and JEs need to address consumer complaints and convince them. Engineers working under various Cauvery projects do not check the drawing or monitor the work. The most difficult areas are the old CMC areas where there is scarcity of water and engineers will have to attend to borewell related problems,” he said.

Harinath, one of the assistant engineers working in Rajajinagar service station, said many of the old areas in the City do not have any documentation of plans related to the pipelines.T Venkataraju suggested the engineers to create their own Geographic information system (GIS) using Google maps and create documents online. BWSSB earlier conducted similar counselling session for chief, executive and assistance executive engineers on handling stress and had invited Gururaj Karajagi, Director, International Academy for Creative Teaching to address them.
