RTO earns Rs 94 cr revenue

According to a press release, the revenue collection target for 2010-11 was fixed at Rs 80 crore. However, the Mangalore RTO surpassed the target and achieved 119 per cent success in the revenue collection.

As many as 18,897 various types of vehicles were inspected during the year. Of them, cases have been registered against 2,146 vehicles and 62 vehicles were seized. A sum of Rs 23,70,244 tax was collected and Rs 56,66,500 fine was collected from the inspected vehicles.

The officials had inspected 4,336 goods vehicles and had registered cases against 153 vehicles and had collected a fine of Rs 43,42,350.

The department had checked 2,537 buses during the period and had booked cases against 292 buses and two buses were seized. About 423 contract buses were checked and the case had been filed against 39 vehicles for violating the rules and regulation.

The officials had inspected 1,152 autorickshaws and cases had been registered against 104 autorickshaws. One autorickshaw was seized. On the complaints of misbehaving with the passengers and charging more rent for hiring auto than what was prescribed, about 25 auto drivers were questioned and permits of 24 autos have been suspended. 

About 3,24,785 different vehicles have been registered as on March 31, 2011. In 2010-11, 16,868 two-wheelers and 6,514 light motor vehicles have been registered in Mangalore RTO office.
