Announcing this at a press conference held in the City recently, Ashish Sen, director of the play said, “The play is an amalgamation of social responsibility and good theatre. And the cast and crew are giving their time and energy for free to this production.”

He added, “Through a play, one can deepen the connect with the audience and it is a great platform to spread a message.”

Rubi Chakravarti and Dinesh Madhavan of HCG Foundation spoke about creating a synergy among community and theatre for a cause.

“This is an attempt from our side to resurrect good, serious and theatre for a cause. People listen a lot hence their response towards the medium is a lot more,” said Rubi. She added that it was time theatre was taken to all possible spaces.

“More than raking in profits, one should be able make theatre more self-sustaining.”
The Pulitzer and Tony award-winning drama from Michael Cristofer, interweaves the lives of three dramatically different cancer patients, their loved ones and their struggle to find meaning in their last moments. And cancer patients are an integral aspect of the play.  It is staged by ‘Play On! Productions’, as a fundraiser for the HCG Foundation.  The proceeds will go towards helping those affected with cancer.

Ashish and Rubi also informed that this is the first of many theatre for a cause plays that they would be involved in.

“It does not mean that there would be only serious plays, there will be a wide variety that we will work on,” said Rubi. The cast for the play comprises Ajit Bhide, Judith Roby Bidapa, K Raza Hussain, Kumar Iyengar, Munira Sen, Rubi Chakravarti, Tushar Menon and Veena Sajnani.
