No post-poll alliance with AIADMK: PC

Last Updated 08 May 2009, 19:02 IST

Dubbing AIADMK chief Jayalalitha as a “bundle of contradictions”, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram has ruled out any post-poll tie up with her party saying that Congress differed with her on important issues and she cannot be accepted as a secular leader.

“Jayalalitha’s objective is not forming the Central government after the polls. Her objective is to topple the Tamil Nadu government. How can the Congress align with such a leader?” Chidambaram told reporters here on Thursday night.

The Union Home Minister said the AIADMK was a party which supported ‘kar seva’ (on Ayodhya issue). “Jayalalitha is a friend of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who pursues anti-minority policies.”

Chidambaram said the UPA would get a majority on its own. However, keeping options open, he said that if like-minded parties come to support the UPA their offers would be taken into account. “This is not new. The same view was expressed before 2004 also. All political parties are expressing the same view,” he said.
