He said that this task was of utmost importance in the urban areas, as far as establishing the ownership of properties is concerned.

“After this exercise, documents such as khata will be redundant since this document will go far in proving the ownership,” he said. This record will also help sort out confusions and contradictions pertaining to the ownership of properties, since this assumes higher importance than RTC record; hence process of collecting property ownership details needs to be hastened up, he asserted. Referring to Jayanagar 4th stage layout as an example that can be followed to map other layouts to clear any ambiguities in borders of property, Chawla said MUDA officials should prepare maps of areas that come under their jurisdiction. Work on comparing property ownership documents is underway since Mysore City Corporation has already completed the process of properties under its wings, only 67,659 owners have submitted ownership documents, while a huge chunk of population has stayed aloof from it. “In this regard, our officials need to get more proactive in collecting these details from others,” Chawla added.  Elaborating on the significance of the exercise, Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta said MCC and MUDA should work as a team and complete the task.

“Survey department will work as a nodal agency. This historic exercise will help discover and avoid encroachments on government lands,” he said.

Assistant Commissioner for Land Records K Rudresh, MUDA Commissioner Dr C J Betsurmutt, MCC official K S Raykar, MUDA Secretary Vidyakumari were present.
