Govt promises probe into 2G report leak

Last Updated 28 April 2011, 19:21 IST

“We will find out,” Union Information & Broadcasting Ministry Ambika Soni said here when asked how the report was leaked to the media, a day before PAC members and Congress MP Navin Jindal was on television airing his views on the PAC functioning. This came even after PAC chairman Murli Manohar Joshi assured that he would have a comprehensive look into the issue of the leakage and also the members speaking on the television about it.
Soni, though refused to comment on the panel’s report, said the PAC is a Parliamentary Committee and its members have given their views.

“The report of the PAC has reached some sections of the media. I have no answer as to how it reached them. Until it is officially tabled, you cannot expect me to comment on that. I have no knowledge (of the report). Until all the members of the PAC agree with the report, it is not proper for a minister to comment on it,” she said.

Speaking to reporters, Congress members K S Rao, Saifuddin Soz and Navin Jindal and DMK member T Siva had on Wednesday attacked the PAC chief for “hurriedly” pushing the report for “political mileage”.

Alleging that Joshi had wanted to “destabilise and defame the Cabinet and the government,” Rao said the draft report seems to have been prepared in a pre-determined manner with biased mind and malafide intention.
