IOA executive board to meet May 24

Last Updated 28 April 2011, 12:59 IST

Malhotra told IANS that the executive board will review all the decisions taken at the AGM held in February during the National Games in Ranchi.

"To call an executive board meeting, a 15-day notice has to be given to the members," said Malhotra, after a meeting with IOA secretary general Randhir Singh at the IOA headquarters Thursday.

"The Board will discuss all the decisions taken at the last AGM and will also chart out plans for the road ahead," said Malhotra, who is also the president of the Archery Association of India (AAI).

Sports minister Ajay Maken has already asked the IOA to conduct fresh elections, but Malhotra said "there are no plans to advance the elections slated for 2012."

Malhotra also said the IOA would be represented by lawyer R.K. Anand along with other officials of the national sports federations at the meeting with sports ministry to discuss the National Sports Development Bill.

"All the federation officials will be present in the meeting with the sports ministry and along with R.K. Anand," said Malhotra, adding that the IOA secretary general will issue a notice informing the government his appointment as the officiating president.

Malhotra took over as the "officiating president" to fill the vacuum created by the arrest of incumbent Kalmadi under the constitutional provisions of the apex body of Indian sport.

Kalmadi, former Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chairman, was arrested
Monday by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for awarding a Swiss firm a contract for timekeeping and scoring equipment for the 2010 Commonwealth Games at an inflated rate of Rs 141 crore.
