The suspects are Mahesh alias Kulla from Basavanagudi, Mahesh alias Lambu from Kempegowdanagar, and Venkatmadhu from Kumaraswamy Layout, all aged between 20 and 23.

Police said they were helped in the crime by their friends Girish and Shruthi who were domestic helps at the residence of Jagadish Kumar, a businessman, at Gavipuram Extension.

The trio frequently visited Jagadish’s house and plotted to steal the jewellery with the help of Girish and Shruthi.

Girish gave them the original keys of the almirah where the jewellery was kept. They got a duplicate key and returned the original key to Girish, police said.

They allegedly opened the almirah with the duplicate key in February when Jagadish and his family members were away. Girish and Shruthi quit the job before the crime came to light.
The family came to know about the theft only on April 27. Jagadish immediately lodged a complaint with the Hanumanthnagar police.

On interrogation, the trio confessed to the offence. The police are on the lookout for Girish and Shruthi.
