'Poor response for women's schemes'

Speaking to media persons here on Saturday, she said under Udyogini Yojane, a self employment programme for girls coming under below poverty line, as many as 206 beneficiaries have been identified in the district, of which 184 have been granted with Rs 1 lakh loan as per the provision of the programme. The subsidy amount offered to SC/STs is Rs 10,000 and Rs 7,500 to other communities. About 60 per cent of the demand across the State is dairy farming and the target for the programme is 10,900. As many as 8,000 beneficiaries have been identified, she said.

As many as 5,500 beneficiaries have been identified under Women Training Programme in the State. The target is 9,000. The training is provided for apparel manufacturing, food processing, dairy farming, computer training, mobile repairs and so on.

In Udupi district, there is a demand for computer training. Plans are on to introduce permanent marketing facilities for the goods manufactured by the girls. The market centers are proposed to set up across four zones in the State. Bangalore, Bagalkot and Mangalore are the three places that have been identified and the other area will be identified shortly. “We consider the proposal to set up marketing centers in the existing Sthree Shakthi Bhavans in the districts. In Bagalkot, a section of Sthree Shakthi Bhavan has been earmarked for the purpose,” she said.

Stating that as many as 22,000 Devadasis surveyed in the year 93-94 are rehabilitated by the Board, Bhardhwaj informed that they are secured with provisions like loans, pensions and other sorts of income generation activities. There are about 23,000 Devadasis in the State left out from rehabilitation benefits who were listed out in the survey that was conducted in the year 2007-08.

The proposal for approval has been sent to the government to rehabilitate these Devadasis, she said. State Information Centre will be set up under the extended provision in Udupi. Tender process is on in as many as 16 states of the State for the purpose, she added.

ZP President Katpadi Shankar Poojary informed that Sthree Shakthi Bhavan in Udupi is constructed at the cost of Rs 75 lakh and facilities for permanent marketing center will be offered in the Sthree Shakthi Bhavan, he said.
