'Follow Basavanna's preachings'

Speaking at a programme as part of Basava Jayanthi celebrations,organised by district administration, Department of Kannada and Culture, Veerashaiva Sangha and other associations in Hassan on Friday, he said Buddha had created a revolution around 2,500 years ago and later it was Basavanna who made Karnakata a Karmabhoomi and was responsible for a social revolution in the 12th century. He was the first person who had given importance to include those who were in the lower strata of the society into the mainstream.

The vachanas that were written in the ‘Anubhava Mantapa’ has been neglected purposefully, he stated. The homas, vedas and other religious rituals that were rejected by Basavanna is being held at the Veerashaiva Mutts itself. There are many who are not fit to comment on the social reformer. He said the vachanas written by Basavanna should be followed by the people, especially the youths.

MLC Patel Shivaram was the chief guest. Deputy Commissioner Naveenraj Singh, SP Amit Singh, ZP CEO Anjan Kumar, K Damodar of Kannda and Culture Department, CMC Commissioner Nagabhushan and others were present.
