It may be remembered that two-and-half-year-old Prajitha, daughter of Shashidharan and Jayanthi of Natekallu Golikatte in Bellur Gram Panchayat, a victim of Endosulfan had died two days ago. As the child was suffering from high fever, the child was admitted to the General Hospital on Thursday. However, the child did not get suitable treatment from paediatrician Dr Narayana Naik. Hence, parents shifted the child to private clinic. As the child failed to respond to the treatment, it died on Thursday.

As the news began to spread, DYFI and other organisations staged a protest against the negligence of the doctor and also pelted stones at Dr Narayana Naik’s private clinic at Pilikunja. The protesters also came down heavily for collecting rent from the parents for shifting the child to private hospital.

Based on the report by the District Health Officer, the Health Minister has ordered for the suspension of paediatrician Dr Narayana Naik and ambulance driver Unnikrishnan. The government has also asked Health department Additional Director Dr Sridharan to probe into the incident.

Medicos protest

The Kerala government medical officers association district committee has flayed the government for suspending Dr Narayana Naik. They have urged the authorities concerned to initiate legal action against those who were responsible for damaging the private clinic of Dr Naik.
