Customers smile as gold prices dip

The jewellry shops in the city saw huge business on Friday, which was the occassion of Akshaya Tritiya.

On Thursday one kg of silver cost Rs 61,000 and on Friday it dropped to Rs 53,000. Cost of 916 hallmark gold dropped from Rs 2060 per gram to Rs 2025.

Most of the leading jewellers said that there was 40 per cent increase in business on just one day. Some shops did sales of 125 gms of gold and about one and half kg silver by afternoon. There are as many as 40 jewellry shops in the city and all together they made a turn over of 3 kg gold and 12 kg silver, it is said.
