Delivering inaugural address at the district-level Limerick poets meet organised by Dakshina Kannada Zilla Chutuku Sahitya Parishat at Taluk Panchayat hall on Friday, he said the limericks must communicate a message, a message which helps in promoting the betterment of the society.

“With the changing time, everything has been politicised. Money has been given prominence over the values and as a result, we have been deprived of experiencing culture and principles that are laid down by the literature,” he regretted.

Stressing the significance of limericks, he said a small line can convey a lot. A phrase like ‘Baduku Jataka Bandi’ communicates more than what we assume. The poets must write limericks based on their real life experiences, he said.

Releasing limerick collections book of V Ga Nayak, Kendra Chutuku Sahitya Parishat (Mysore) Chief Convenor Dr M G R Aras said, the limerick writers today are in a previliged position compared to the writers earlier. At a time when people lack enough time and patience to read lengthy poems, limericks are quite reader-friendly, he claimed.

Meanwhile, he criticised Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Nallur Prasad for not giving required help for limerick related activities. Chutuku Sahitya Parishat had played a major role in electing Nallur Prasad as Sahitya Parsihat President, but he has not responded well to our demands after he gained the position, he complained. Poets from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts took part in the meet.
