Bubbling with energy

The students of Vasavi Institute of Management and Advanced Studies celebrated their ‘Freshers’ Day’ recently.

With the students’ energy at its brim, the day saw a lot of activity and enjoyment. The events for the day included games like ‘musical chairs’, ‘puzzle games’, ‘lemon in the spoon’ and entertainment like group dances, solo and duet songs and a fashion show.
Kirthi Padki, a final-year student and the organiser for the day, detailed about the fashion show held as part of the festivities.

“We used costumes from different parts of the country like Kerala, West Bengal,
Rajasthan and Karnataka to represent the varied culture of our country. Clothes are a medium to showcase our tradition and that’s why we tried to bring in different attires from different states.

Organising the event was a challenge since our last year’s batch was larger compared to this year’s. But we still presented a great show with the resources we had. It gave us a chance to get closer to our juniors too,” said Kirthi.

Events at college are often a platform to discover oneself and one’s capacities. Sumithra R, a second-year student, who was a part of a group dance said, “We performed a fusion sequence on Kannada, English and Hindi songs and it was a fun experience. Our team of five members practised for a week and wanted to give it our best shot. We are proud of the result.”

Thara, another member of the dance sequence, commented, “I’ve always enjoyed singing and dancing and I’m extremely happy that the college encourages our talents and provides a platform for the same.” Talking about the song she sang, Sumithra says, “I sang Gana nayaka gana dekshaya and it was hard to learn the same as it was entirely in Sanskrit. It was a challenging and fruitful experience to sing the song
on stage.”

The newcomers felt more than welcome to the campus after the celebration. “It was a wonderful event and an excellent chance to showcase one’s talent. I sang a Kannada song and the guidance and encouragement I received from everyone helped me overcome my stage fear,” voiced Niveditha BK, a first-year student.

She also shared that she thoroughly enjoyed the games and felt closer to her seniors as they had made the dayspecial for her and the other first-year students.

Another first-year student, TPV Satish, said, “It was an awesome event. While our friends danced on the stage, we were all dancing and enjoying ourselves in the crowd. Since our college is not an over-crowded one, we are all very close to each other and the day’s events helped us bond further.”
