Palike Commissioner Siddaiah is said to have assured the traders, who gathered in front of his chamber on Tuesday, that work would be stopped immediately.

There had been strong resentment among the local traders against the construction of shops at the location used as a garbage segregation point near the market. While traders were told that only two shops would be constructed, on Tuesday they were told five shops would be constructed at the location.

A meeting chaired by Mayor Sharadamma and commissioner Siddaiah was in progress in the afternoon when the traders started entering the Palike office from all the three gates.

Traders converge

As soon as the Commissioner finished the meeting and entered his office, the traders converged near his chamber and insisted that they be allowed to meet him.

On receiving information,  a team from Halasur Gate police station rushed to the spot.
