One such woman is Paula Mascarenhas, a teacher in Bethany Junior School. She is the sister of late Mark Mascarenhas, who was the CEO of WorldTel Sports, the company which sponsored Sachin Tendulkar.

And it was because of her brother that she got two autographed bats from Sachin Tendulkar, which she plans to auction.  She says, “I know Sachin because my brother had worked with him. So one day I called him and told him about the cause I support. He usually doesn’t give autographed bats unless it is for charity or for his close friends. He was more than willing to help me with this.”

She adds, “My brother had done the same a few years ago and this had inspired me. If I can help raise a small amount of money for charity, it will make a huge difference and that is my aim. The proceeds of this auction will go towards two charitable organisations – the Bethany Class Four Workers Fund and Family Fund and an NGO called Prema Jyothi, which helps street children.”

This being a cricket crazy country, Paula feels the auction will get a good response from people who would like to possess the bats which are personally signed by the cricketer. She says, “Cricket is very much loved in the country. Moreover, Sachin is considered the God of cricket. So I am sure a lot of people will come forward to buy the bat as it will serve as a form of memorabilia which everyone would love to own.”

Personally, Paula is not much of a cricket enthusiast. She says, “I am not much of a cricket fan. But if there is a good game going on, I watch it. I loved the World Cup semi-final match against Pakistan and I have also watched a few of the IPL games. But I am not a diehard sports fan. During my younger days, I used to play hockey.”

Paula loves working with children. She has travelled to many places like Australia, England and has taught in many schools in India and abroad. She has been in the teaching profession for the last 25 years and she plans to continue in this line till she retires.

“I have always loved working with small children. Teaching has been my passion,” she smiles. Right now, auctioning the bats for a good amount is her main agenda. Those who are interested in Sachin’s bats can contact Paula on 9845078090.
