Surekha, mother of two girl children belonging to gold smith community, was married to Prakashachary of Kanderi street of Kurnool district six years ago.

After two successive girl children, Prakash wanted to have a baby boy and sought services of ultra sound clinics in the district town. Following the findings of the clinic, he had earlier forced his wife to abort two other pregnancies.

The fifth pregnancy of Surekha turned into her death warrant, as Prakash tookSurekha to Pavan Clinic in neighbouring Banaganapalli run by Dr Sujatha on Tuesday and the test confirmed the sex of the six-month foetus.

Infuriated by this, Prakash forced his wife to terminate the advanced stage of pregnancy. Surekha is said to have refused to undergo one more abortion as earlier abortions took a heavy toll on her health.

It was on Wednesday morning that Prakashachary came out of his house and told neighbours that his wife committed suicide. However, the neighbours who are aware of his hatred towards girl children alerted the police and Surekha’s parents.

 “There is a strangulation mark on Surekha’s neck and the crime scene puts Prakash in the dock. We are also looking into the scanning reports given by the clinic,” Upendra, Circle Inspector of Kurnool police station said. Prakash was taken into custody.

Meanwhile, the District Medical and Health Office has sealed the clinic that has conducted  sex determination and questioned the doctor who runs a private clinic that has ultra sound facility despite being a government employee.
