Kanimozhi grilled by I-T sleuths

Kanimozhi,  a 20 per cent stake holder in Kalaignar TV’ had been summoned by the IT Authorities on Monday to explain the financial dealings of the channel company.

The IT department summons had also been sent to other shareholders,  Dayalu Ammal,  Karunanidhi’s elder wife who holds 60 per cent shares in Kalaignar TV and Sharad Kumar Reddy,  the  channel’s Managing Director, who holds the remaining 20 per cent stake.

Kanimozhi , accompanied by her husband G Aravindan and Sharad, who  had appeared at the IT Department’s Investigative Wing office here,  were quizzed about the Rs 200 crore transaction, which came into Kalaignar TV, ostensibly as a loan from Swan Telecom, a beneficiary of the 2G license under the tenure of former Union telecom minister A Raja, prime accused in the  case.

The interrogation of Kanimozhi and Sharad on Thursday covered this transaction too, IT authorities said.

The CBI’s supplementary charge-sheet in this case, filed on April 25, had named six new accused, including Kanimozhi, and Sharad Kumar, Kalaignar TV’s MD and Swan Telecom promoter Shahid Usman Balwa’s cousin Asif Balwa.

Kanimozhi was swarmed by mediapersons as she drove into the IT office.  A relaxed-looking Kanimozhi. however, managed to give the waiting media the slip after the deliberations with the IT officials. Sources said as the investigations were continuing, the Kalaignar TV directors could be again called “if required”.
