SC considers interim order on endosulfan

Last Updated 12 May 2011, 18:32 IST

A Bench headed by Chief Justice S H Kapadia said that it would be passing interim order on the PIL filed by CPM’s youth wing Democratic Youth Federation of India on Friday after hearing different parties including the manufacturers.

The court noted that if it did not pass interim order then it would be difficult to take a corrective measure after the damage. Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium said:  “We have to look for alternative before considering a ban.”

He also told the court that three committees were examining the issue while saying that he had advised the government against its aerial use.

“All these years, you did not find anything. And you are making investment in these units,” the bench said, after being told that public sector firm Hindustan Insecticide Ltd was still producing endosulfan.
