Congress workers take to streets

The activists also clashed with the police across the state prompting the police to use force at many places. Several Congress workers were injured in Lucknow during clash with the police. UP Congress president Reeta Bahuguna Joshi, who led the workers was also pushed by the security personnel before being arrested.

While Shatabdi Express was stopped at Kanpur, movement of trains on the Delhi-Mumbai route was also affected for few hours after Congress workers squatted on the tracks near Mathura, sources said.

Reports of demonstrations were also received from Varanasi, Raebareli, Meerut, Kanpur, Jhansi, Mathura, Allahabad and other places, police sources said. Congress spokesman Subodh Srivastava  said  the party’s agitation against the alleged atrocities by the government  would continue. He also claimed that thousands of party workers were arrested during the agitation.

Rahul was arrested on Wednesday night after he refused to end his dharna at the Bhatta, Parsaul village. He was later released.
