Group clash; five injured

Five persons have sustained serious injuries when two groups clashed and fought each other.

Kalegowda, S K Kalegowda, Nandish, Venkatesh of Sunkathonnur and Doreswamy of Kalenahalli are the injured. They are admitted in town hospital for first aid and were later shifted to K R Hospital in Mysore.

The clash happened after an argument over serving non-vegetarian food in a marriage feast at Kallenahalli village. The two groups clashed using lethal weapons inflicting grievous injuries on five people. Pandavapura rural police have booked a case and are investigating.

Betrothed girl ends life  

A girl who was engaged, has committed suicide by hanging self at Shiradanahalli village in Arkalgud taluk, on Thursday night.

Yamuna(19), daughter of Manjchar of the village, is the victim. Her marriage was fixed on May 29 with Rangachari, son of Jayaramachar of Alur taluk. The reason for her suicide is not known. Arkalgud Police have registered a case.

Gold chain snatch away

A woman was relieved of her gold chain by an unidentified youth on Shettyhalli Road in Malavalli.

Sharada, wife of Nanjundaswamy, a resident of Shettyhalli road, is the victim. She was returning home after attending a marriage at Shanthi Community Hall. The gold chain weighed about 60 grams.The  youth came on a bike and snatched away the chain. Malavalli Police have registered a case.

Person killed on the spot

A pedestrian died on the spot when he was knocked down by a speeding bike near Kirangur in Srirangapatna. Suresh (30), son of late Hombalaiah, a resident of Cauverypura of Srirangpatna town, is the deceased. The mishap occurred when he was returning home. Srirangapatna Police have registered a case.

Mishap;police constable dies

A police constable died on the spot when he was hit by a bike on Madahalli road near JSS College in Gundlupet town, on Wednesday night. Manju (32), a jeep driver for Circle Police Inspector is the deceased. He was returning home after attending marriage. He died on the way to hospital. However, the police suspected foul play. Circle Police Inspector H K Shivaswamy visited the spot.

Homemaker dies

A homemaker committed suicide by setting herself ablaze after dousing kerosene at Kundakere village, on Thursday.  Jyothi (28) wife of Shivashankar of the village, is the victim. She was a resident of Heggadahalli in Nanjangud taluk.

She was married to Shivashankar of Kundakere village. Unable to bear alleged torture by her in-laws and husband for dowry, she reportedly ended her life. She was survived by her daughter Likitha, six, years. Terakanambi police arrested her father- in-law Shivalingappa, brother -in- law Eshwar and her husband Shivashankar. However, her mother-in-law Shivamma is absconding. Terakanambi police have registered a case.
