Basavana who worked for social equality is a role model for everyone. The principles he has put forth in 12th century should be followed by all, he advised.

To build a cultured society, the thoughts of Basavanna are sufficient, said Ravanduru Murughamutt’s Mokshapathi Swamiji after inaugurating the programme. “A society with integrity should be built on the basis of equality,” said Vishveshwara Swamiji of Veeraktha Mutt in Somwarpet.

“It is the responsibility of the elders in the society to pass on the values of Veerashaiva culture,” said District Veerashaiva Samaja President S P Mahadevappa.
Basavahyothi procession took off from Baichanahalli’s Basaveshwara Temple.
Basavanna’s picture was decorated and women were carrying ‘Purnakumbha Kalasha’. The ‘Veerabhadreshwara Veeragase’ dance form and ‘Nandidwaja’ dance form attracted the public.

The procession ended at Basaweshwara Temple Car Street. The town was decorated with green mango leaves on the occasion.
