Speaking at the teachers and employees convention organised by Narayana Guru Yuva Vedike here on Sunday, he said: “We still live in a society where talent is measured on the lines of caste and religion. The followers of Narayana Guru should be cautious on those who use religion and caste for their personal gain and engage in exploitation.”

He called upon the people to educate their children, so that they can lead a life with dignity.

Former MP Janardhan Poojary said Narayana Guru followers believe in equality. The preachings of Narayana Guru and Basavanna on ‘one caste, one religion and one God’ laid the foundation for the Constitution of the country. Billava community is filled with the blood of Koti Chennaiah who fought for truth and righteousness.

“We should become warriors and not cowards. One should not lag behind in telling truth. At a time when Billavas were denied entry to temples and were given food in coconut shells, Narayana Guru preached the principles of equality. Leaders like B K Hariprasad should build the society, which will be supported by all of us.”

Narayana Guru Vedike felicitated Thukaram Poojary and Janaki. A student who has secured highest marks in SSLC was given ‘Brahmasri’ gold medal. As many as 38 students who have scored more than 90 per cent marks were honoured on the occasion.

Actor Vijaya Raghavendra, entrepreneur Mohiuddin Bava, Mangalore Taluk Panchayat President Bhavya Poojary and others were present.
