For now, no heads will roll in CPM

Last Updated 15 May 2011, 19:37 IST

The CPM has for long been alleging a Maoist-Trinamool Congress nexus behind this violence. Now with the loss of power, it apprehends more attacks.

According to insiders, the party leadership has given such prominence to violence directed against its workers that heads may not roll at Monday’s meeting for the party’s poll debacle.
The meeting will certainly hear views on the dismal poll outcome for the party but any decision on fixing responsibility is likely to be postponed. The politburo is also unlikely to make any harsh comment against its cadre which is being talked of in every circle including the Left Front partners. Instead, It may take a stand that would prop up the morale of the cadre.

The party’s immediate line of offence may comprise slogans of ‘defending big gains’ like land reforms and panchayati raj. The restructuring of the party will certainly be done in a planned manner.

In addition to party consolidation, the politburo has to address the waning cohesion among Left Front partners.
