Manmohan reviews security post-Osama

Last Updated 16 May 2011, 18:15 IST

Besides Singh, the 90-minutes meeting was attended by Defence Minister A K Antony, National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon, Army Chief Gen V K Singh, Navy Chief Admiral Nirmal Verma, Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal P V Naik, Defence Secretary Pradeep Kumar and Director-General of Defence Research and Development Organisation V K Saraswat.

As officials are tight-lipped on the proceedings, the meeting is understood to have taken stock of the security scenario close to the western border following the killing of Laden and the reactions emanating from Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The review comes in the backdrop of a veiled threat from Pakistan’s Inter Service Intelligence (ISI) chief Ahmed Shuja Pasha said any Abbottabad-style special operation from New Delhi’s part would be given a befitting reply.

Pasha stated that targets inside India “had been identified” and “rehearsals were carried out”.
