Woman's futile attempt to rob lands four in hospital

Hemalatha, resident of Kellangere village, got ready to attend a wedding ceremony complete with jewellery. Her neighbour Rekha who was lured by the gold ornaments worked out a sketch to make her unconscious and decamp with her jewellery.

Accordingly, she purchased a sweet ‘Sohanpappadi’ laced it with poison and gave it to Hemalatha.

But, unfortunately for Rekha, Hema was suffering from diabetes and hence gave the packet to her neighbour Gangamma. Gangamma shared the sweet with her daughter Meenakshamma, grand daughters Devika and Bhoomika. Within a few minutes, all four complained of stomachache and vomiting and became unconscious.

They were immediately admitted to Arsikere government hospital and all are said to be out of danger. The blood and vomit sample has been sent to Bangalore laboratory for testing. Arsikere rural police have registered a case.

Raid on gambling den

In a filmy style incident, a team led by Dy SP Mahadevappa on Wednesday arrested six persons who were involved in gambling in Kollegal town. Upon information, the cops raided  gambling den near Lokanahalli road near Madhuvanahalli in the taluk. They also arrested six persons, residents of Kollegal who were involved in gambling and recovered a cash of ` 410, two autorickshaws and two mobile phones from them. Circle Inspector Manjunath and staff were present.Rural police have registered a case and are investigating.

Truck stolen

A lorry that was parked in front of a house was stolen by miscreants at Kenchahalli village in Hassan taluk. Srinivas, a resident of Jakkavalli village had parked his lorry near the house of Halsiddappa at Kenchatahalli village on Tuesday. He was shocked to see the lorry missing on Wednesday morning. A case has been registered in this regard.

One held for gambling

Hassan police have arrested one person who was involved in gambling at a ‘Matka Kendra’ on Gorur road on Wednesday. Upon receiving information that people were playing ‘Matka’ near a Nirmalanagara toilet on Gorur road, Crime squad led by C D Jagadish raided the place and arrested one person Subramani and recovered a cash of  ` 563 from him. A case has been registered at Hassan city police station.
