Hundreds of television sets and electric appliances were also destroyed, the loss adding up to lakhs of rupees.
The roof of the grape vines in Bacchappa's fields in K Muttukadahalli collapsed on the crop. The creepers were grown on 2.2 acres land and were ready for cutting in about a week's time. The loss has been estimated at more than Rs 15 lakh, since about 320 vines were destroyed.
In addition, lightning struck all over the taluk, destroying wiring, television sets and electric appliances in many houses.
Tahsildar B Mallikarjun and revenue inspector Manjunath visited the grape farm and inspected the loss.
This is the first time that a grape farm has been completely destroyed in the taluk. The State government as well as the Horticulture Minister will be requested to provide relief to the farmer, said the Tahsildar.
