'GP influential in keeping taluk clean'

He was speaking after inaugurating a voluntary hygiene campaign in Kasaba hobli in the taluk on Friday. The programme, undertaken in villages under 11 gram panchayats of the hobli, is going on currently in Chakkondahalli.

“A renewed voluntary cleanliness campaign is organised in all villages as part of the Sampoorna Swacchata Andolan of 2011. We have received excellent response from the entire taluk,” Shantappa said.

A similar cleanliness programme had been organised on May 13 in the villages under the gram panchayat of Lakkur hobli.

Officers from all departments of the taluk, the president of the Zilla Panchayat, members representing the region, Taluk Panchayat president and members, Gram Panchayat president and members, and even residents of the villages had participated in the programme, he recollected.

“The present programme too is on the lines of the campaign in Lakkur hobli. Staff members of the development departments in the taluk will join the president and members of each gram panchayat to get the drains in the villages cleaned,” Shantappa explained.Masti hobli and Tekal hobli will have the programme in the villages on May 27 and June 3 respectively, he informed.

The second phase of the programme will include construction of toilets for every house in the taluk. “Attempts to spread awareness about the need for the toilets will be made in earnest,” he added.
