The tour is being organised under the Backward Regions Grants Fund (BRGF) of the Centre. The ZP presidents and officers of Chitradurga, Davangere, Gulbarga, Raichur, Bidar and Yadgir will leave for Bangkok in two batches. While the first batch is leaving on May 23, the second batch is going a week later.

The members of the team will be introduced to the reforms in the rural development sector of that country.  Since the government is mulling over bringing about those reforms in the State also, the plan is to introduce the ZP presidents and officers to the advancements in Thailand, said C Mahalingappa, President of the Chitradurga ZP.

The chief executive officers, the chief project officers and the BRGF officers of the ZPs will be part of the team. The Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand, will offer the training.

Providing basic infrastructure, ensuring the economic independence of the people, women’s development and other issues will form part of the training programme. There will also be field visits. However, some of those listed to be part of the team may not make it as their passports are not yet ready.
