Home teams should have a say on choice of wickets: Jennings

Pitches have been a topic of controversy this season and the Indian Premier League made it clear that the responsibility of preparing the wickets is solely with the pitches and ground committee.

"If I have Dale Steyn, I can't prepare a pitch with long grass (because) then, I am going over the top. If you prepare wickets that are so slow, you are again going over the top.

There should be boundaries. There should be limits between the maximum and minimum," said Jennings.

Rajasthan Royals skipper Shane Warne was fined $50,000 for abusing an official in the Rajasthan Cricket Association but it initially trigerred off when Warne blasted officials for not preparing a wicket he had asked for in one of the matches at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

Jennings feels the Indian domestic cricketers are not often tested when they play on slow pitches and stressed on the need for sporting wickets.

Royal Challengers have 12 domestic players in their squad and  most of them have fared reasonably well in the IPL. Jennings says these players are not put under pressure often as they play mostly on batting-friendly wickets.

"A lot of cricket is played on flat wickets and there is not much pressure," Jennings said.

"You have got to make sporting wickets. In a four-day game, if you don't get a hundred, then it is considered that you batted badly. You don't do enough fielding under pressure and so when the pressure is there, you don't take the catch. There is talent in India but make that talent play under huge amount of pressure and then you will see the results."
