JOIN USTwo weeks after CSA announced that the external investigation initially called for by President Mtutuzeli Nyoka would take place, concerns have emerged again about the delay as CSA seeks unanimous board agreement on the choice of auditors.
Board member Ishmael Semenya, tasked with selecting the auditors, earlier said he had hoped to finalise the decision by May 7.
But now Semenya says it may take a little longer.
“There have been objections about whether certain companies would be appropriate for the task,” Semenya told the daily SportsDay.
Nyoka played down the differences, calling them “minor issues. “There are just a few things that need to get sorted out,” Nyoka said. Nyoka was dismissed in absentia by the CSA board in the wake of his call for an independent inquiry into IPL bonuses.
At one stage he publicly accused CSA chief executive Gerald Majola of lying to him after it emerged that Majola and other CSA management and staff had received huge bonuses from IPL 2, played in South Africa due to security concerns in India at election time there.
Amid concerns that the IPL bonuses had not been properly processed by CSA, Nyoka’s call for an independent inquiry was turned into an internal one where Majola was cleared of any serious wrongdoing. Nyoka took his dismissal to the high court, which ordered his reinstatement.
Part of the court ruling in Nyoka’s favour, calls on CSA to show him how it accounted for the 86.4 million Rand paid into a special account by the IPL tournament organisers.
