Man run over by auto dies

Aseem (19), a native of Assam, was working in a hotel in the area. Around 10.50 pm, when he was heading home, a speeding autorickshaw knocked him down and disappeared in the dark.

Aseem was rushed to Satya hospital and later, referred to Bowring Hospital. Police said he died on the way to the hospital.

In the same area, another hit-and-run case was reported on May 19, when an unknown vehicle knocked down a septuagenarian on the same stretch.

Sundaram (78) was trying to cross the road when the accident occurred. The injured was admitted to a private hospital near Whitefield and he was declared dead Tuesday.
Charas seized: 4 held

The City police raided a lodge in Kalasipalya and arrested four persons on charges of possessing nearly seven kg charas worth around Rs 35 lakh on Tuesday.

The arrested are Mohammed Ilyas (44) of Uttar Pradesh, Mohammed Sanawar (40) of Hyderabad, Naseer Pasha (23) of Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh and Mujahideen Mehboob (38) of Chintamani.

Police said the arrested men confessed that they bought the charas from a woman called Banu from Saharanpur. Then, they all moved towards Bangalore and had plans to push the contraband to businessman in Chickpet, Mamulpet, Avenue Road, Sultanpet, City Market and adjoining areas.
