Tragic end for nurse waiting to take up job in Kuwait

Last Updated 26 May 2011, 11:04 IST

The 25-year-old youth from Kerala had joined duty in the afternoon shift yesterday at Apollo Hospital in Delhi where he was working for the past five years.

"He would have gone home after the shift but at the last minute was asked to go to Patna to fetch a patient. The journey turned out be his last," a friend of Joy said.

The aircraft which was ferrying a critically ill patient Rahul Raj, a 20-year-old Patna-based businessman, to Apollo Hospital, crashed into a house here at 10.35 pm. All seven aboard, including Cyril, as well as three women on the ground perished in the mishap.

Cyril, who hails from Vazhachuklam village in Ernakulam district, is the son of Joy P Kuriakose and Reethamma -- who is also a panchayat member.

Only recently, he got selected for a male nurse's job in Kuwait and was waiting for a visa.
Meanwhile, the Apollo Hospital, which arranged the aeroplane from Delhi-based Air Chartered Services India Limited, said the crash is "most unfortunate and tragic".
"The entire Apollo family is devastated and is in shock along with the families of the deceased," it said in a statement.
